Not much has been happening around here for the past week or so, I have been spending most of my computer time trying to decide what components I want in my new system. So I thought I would share some of the movies I have seen, and music I am listening too.
I first found Ratatat when I was looking for music under the XL Music label. When I was younger living in England XL alway had the cool cutting edge groups and music. Most notable The Prodigy and the then new Rave and Jungle music.
Ratatat is not Rave or Jungle, but they are very good. Their sound is kind of a mix between alternative rock and electronic music. There are no vocals which make it perfect for listening to while working.
This is the first album I have bought in a long time that is original, and good. Just a good disc and I would recommend it to anyone. Because it is a mix between rock and electronic I think that the overall sound can appeal to a diverse audience.
First off there are only seven tracks on the disk, this is not really a big deal because they are all about ten minutes long. The main thing was that each track seems to have nearly two minutes of lead in dead air time, where nothing really happens at all. I do not mind songs that build up for ten or twenty seconds, but after a minute I am starting to wonder if the track is even playing anymore.
Once the music actually started playing it was not really much better. From the user reviews I read they were making the disk sound like a creative masterpiece, but I have heard this kind of thing before, and it does not do anything for me.
The disk does come with a DVD that is meant to contain some great visuals, and DTS 5.1 surround sound. But I have not had the time or any real desire to watch it.
This album is meant to be a departure from BT's usual work, so hopefully I can find something more to my tastes with his other work. But I would suggest people save their money and skip this one.
This a new take on the Cowboy movie, it is set in Australia rather than America and is done in a gritty style that does not really have any hero like most Clint Eastwood movies you normally see. I liked this movie mostly due to the way that it painted a more accurate picture of what life would have probably been like living back then.
The one theme that seemed to keep cropping up where the flies everywhere. They gave the sense that everything there was rotten and nasty.
The story was a little flat, there was not a lot going on. But personally I think the way the movie was filmed, the acting, and the general feel of the movie make it worth watching. If it had a slightly deeper storyline and characters I think it would be a great movie, as it is it's just a good movie. Well worth renting.
